The Omaha Gay Village

The Social Network for the Omaha GLBT Community! Protest Against Hate!!!

I'm trying to come up with some type of mission statement for the Omaha Gay Village social network. In November 2008 two things happened that was really the final push for me to be involved in gay activism in the Omaha area, the passage of Prop 8 in California and finally getting to see the movie Milk, with Sean Penn. The passage of Prop 8 filled me with anger and disappointment at society, and the Milk inspired me to go out and do something about it, especially here in Nebraska, which is in a far worse position for gay rights than California has ever been in. I constantly rack my brain to figure out ways to inspire and educate others, both gay and straight. It seems I can never find that perfect solution. On November 15th, 2008 Join the Impact had their Nationwide protest against Prop 8, I went to it and when I left I felt I had accomplished something. Over 200 people showed up for that protest, a considerably larger amount than what has showed up at protests since. How do we get people to go out and fight for their rights with us? How can we convince them that this is an important course of action?
